Noble Bereans
Noble Bereans is a music ministry that helps kids connect with God through God's word, the Bible.
Our vision is to produce a treasure trove of music known for its:
- Bold proclamation of Scripture
- Big view of God
- Exaltation of Jesus Christ
- Faithful expression of reformed theology
- Appeal to the whole family, especially kids
We believe the Bible is God's true, perfect and eternal word.
We want kids everywhere to be excited about knowing God, so we write songs to help them!

Studio Update #16![]()
“Never work with children or animals.” ![]()
Are you serious??? Kids are a huge part of my life and they’re my main audience. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me!” (Luke 18:16)
I find it so energising and rewarding to involve kids in the recording process. ![]()
On Tuesday they came with energy, they had questions about the lyrics, they sang more than was required and were fascinated by the studio. It’s awesome to see inquisitive brains, creative minds and musicality on display. Good job, parents!![]()
It was a pleasure and an honour to have 5 kids from church – Tom, Stella, Alice, Will and Hamish – come in and sing on 3 songs. Overall, the kids’ singing will be just a small feature, but a delightful one, on the album.![]()
I was fascinated to find that “Hot Hot Furnace” was the stand-out favourite amongst the kids. Daniel 3 – the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego – contains some brilliant literary techniques, including repetition. Certain phrases are repeated in a way that I find amusing, but sadly I couldn’t manage to include these repeated phrases in my song, otherwise a 4 ½ minute song (very long by my standards!) might’ve become a 6-minute song!![]()
Yet I feature a narrator who has a simple, repeated catchphrase throughout, and the kids (and Aunty Fwee!) just love it. My original demo of this song contained 4 occurrences of the catchphrase, but thanks to feedback from Matt Gorton and Spike, it now appears 9 times and doesn’t seem to get old.![]()
Big thanks to Amy, Tom, Grandad Tom and Aunty Fwee for accompanying the kids during their studio session.
In Christ,
Kingsley.
Studio Update #15![]()
Instrumentalists, stand down!![]()
Last week Rod Wilson graced the studio with his presence.
This week it was the better half of “Davidson Brothers 2.0” (see photo) and Geoff Cox.![]()
Rod has played drums and percussion for Sons of Korah for a LONG time, providing rhythm and backbone.
On my first album, we gave Rod an unprecedented challenge – to play our kitchen pots ‘n pans. See if you can hear them on “Boast” and “Tell Me About Redemption”.
It worked so well that we asked him for a repeat on Taste The Old Testament. Listen out for “Proverbs” and enjoy “pots ‘n pans 2.0”!![]()
Pete is my braver, stronger, younger brother. He’s a lot like me and a lot more outgoing and entertaining. When I had songs crying out for fun sound effects, there was only one person for the job!
Listen out for his best work on “Proverbs” and “Pomegranate”.![]()
We invited Geoff, a friend from my old church, to play cello on the final song of the album. “Seek You Night and Day” is based on Psalm 119:9-16 which features a heartfelt cry to God: “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.”![]()
Geoff’s cello part signals the end of our guest instrumentalists! Huge thanks and respect to Mike (drums), Jared (keys galore), Sam (guitar), Hamish (banjo, fiddle, mandolin), Steve (harmonica), Geoff (cello), Rod (percussion), Phil (drums), Pete (sound effects), Bruce (guitar) and of course Spike on a dozen different instruments!![]()
Next week we begin recording the many layers of vocals, starting with some kids from my church.![]()
Thankful to God for this opportunity and to you for your support and encouragement.![]()
In Christ,
Kingsley.
Studio Update #14![]()
This week I had the immense pleasure of studio sessions with Jared Haschek on keys and Steve Messer on harmonica!![]()
In January, Jared was a key part (pardon the pun) of the Dream Team session, recording on 5 tracks. On Thursday we roped him into another 4 tracks that needed piano, organ or even piano accordion!
The highlight for me was when Jared added an unplanned piano part on “Yahweh Bless You” – it felt for a moment as though Rich Mullins* was in the room.
I don’t know much of Steve’s story, but I’d love to get to know him more. He came a long way just to play harmonica on one song. His generosity and friendliness shone bright, and his part on “The Ten Commandments” song was everything we’d hoped it would be!![]()
God-willing, the next three sessions will include percussion, cello, some sound effects from a special guest, and a kids’ choir. Can’t wait!![]()

*Rich Mullins is my all-time favourite singer/songwriter and was a brilliant musician who died in 1997 aged 41. Listen to this playlist of some of his stunningly beautiful piano/vocal combos:
